Mrs. Linda Payne-Shelton, age 81, of Mount Airy, passed away early Saturday morning July 27, 2024, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. Payne-Shelton was born on July 17, 1943, in Cana, Virginia, to the late Columbus Payne and Annetta Westmoreland Payne. Mrs. Payne-Shelton worked for many years in the Accounts Payable department at Accessory Brands Inc. in Advance, North Carolina. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, she will be deeply missed by all that knew her. Surviving Mrs. Payne-Shelton is her loving husband David Shelton of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne Bumgardner and Joey; sons and daughter-in-law, Keith York and Alison, Greg York and Lacey Roberts; step-children, Dana Shelton, Tammy Niston and Sean; grandchildren and their spouses, Corey Bumgardner and Courtney, Courtney and Blake Gilley, Amelia “Millie” York and friend Brandon Sheppard, Austin York and Kelsey, Taylor Cure and Clint, Erin Horst and Mason; step-grandchildren, Zane Williams, Kendall Hicks and Jacob, Reese Niston; great grandchildren, Tucker Bumgardner, Adleigh Gilley, Kade Gilley; brothers and sisters-in-laws, William Payne and Donna, Raymond Payne and Kathy, Gloria Payne. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters and brother-in-law, Lucille Semones, Runelle Cagle and Bob; brothers, Columbus Payne, Eugene Payne, Bernie Payne, Charles Payne. A celebration of Mrs. Payne-Shelton’s life will be held Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at Epworth Memorial Church at 2:00 PM with the Rev. Jackie Danley and Rev. Richard Loman officiating. A burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday July 30, 2024, from 12:30 until 2:00 PM at Epworth Memorial Church. The family would like to thank everyone for all the love, prayers, and support during Mrs. Payne-Shelton’s sickness, especially to the staff at The Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson for the care and compassion shown.
