Linda Louise Brinkley Whitaker

Mrs. Linda Louise Brinkley Whitaker, 62, of 6510 Siloam Road, Siloam, passed away Wednesday, February 13, 2008, at her home. Mrs. Whitaker was born January 24, 1946, in Surry County, daughter of the late Thomas E. and Annie Cook Brinkley. Linda was a graduate of Mount Airy High School and Martin Memorial School of Nursing. She retired as an operating room nurse from Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center after 24 years of service. Following her nursing career, she owned and operated a rose garden business and was a member of the Winston-Salem Rose Society. Linda was accredited through the North Carolina Cooperative Extension program as a master gardener. Mrs. Whitaker attended New Grace Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Lanny Thomas Whitaker, Sr. of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Lanny Thomas Whitaker, Jr. and Emily Whitaker and Travis and Carrie Whitaker, all of Siloam; two grandsons, Jacob Ellis Whitaker and Samuel David Whitaker, both of Siloam; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Claude and Shirley Brinkley of Mount Airy and Edwin and Teresa Brinkley of Lynchburg, VA. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Whitaker was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Lee Brinkley. The funeral service will be held Saturday, February 16, 2008, at 1:00 PM at New Grace Baptist Church. The service will be conducted by Dr. Craig Edwards, and burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes before the funeral service.
