Mr. Lindley Jepeth "L.J." Williams, 72, of 1611 North Main Street, Mount Airy, passed away Thursday, January 17, 2008, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Williams was born August 8, 1935, in Surry County, to the late Barney Ezra and Lessie Cook Williams. L.J. was a successful business man for many years. Through the years, he served as president of Regan Roofing, Lindley Hosiery, and Lindley Properties. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Joan Slate Williams of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Susan and Skip Fox of Huntersville and Emily Williams Orange of Mount Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, John and Keyna Williams of Mooresville; six grandchildren, William Brinkley, Slate Brinkley, Cooper Orange, Carson Orange, Lindley Williams, and Avery Williams; a twin sister and brother-in-law, Mary Faye and Jack Proctor of Charlotte; and his mother-in-law, Audrey Shelton Slate. The funeral service will be held Sunday, January 20, 2008, at 2:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church, with Dr. Steve Lindsley officiating. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Mount Airy Dialysis Center, 1280 Newsome Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030, or Old Hickory Council, Boy Scouts of America, 6600 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC 27106.
