Lindy Gene Hiatt

Mr. Lindy Gene Hiatt, 88, of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, February 18, 2018, at his home. Mr. Hiatt was born in Beckley, WV, on April 6, 1929, to Nathan C. Hiatt and Beulah Quesenberry Hiatt. Mr. Hiatt was a retired plumber and electrician, but he was much more than that to his friends and family. He was a blessing to everyone who knew him. He loved to work with his hands and he made beautiful hand-crafted items, including small furniture and other keepsakes. Almost everyone who knew him had a piece of his work, given freely with love, and from his heart. The world will be a lonelier place without him. Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Larry Hinshaw; a granddaughter, Erin (Greg) Wooten; great-granddaughters, Sarah Dinkins and Meredith (Cody) Styers; great-great-grandsons, Wyatt and Jackson Styers; a sister, Zelphia Carter; a brother, the Rev. Elmo Hiatt and his wife, Reva; a special niece, Wanda Cunningham; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hiatt was preceded in death by his wife, Mamie Audrey White Hiatt; a step-son, Roger Dotson; four sisters, Gladys Spurlin, Bessie Moles, Mary Manning, and Betty Jane Stanley; and four brothers, Jeff, Aubrey, Carl, and Scottie Hiatt. Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM on Saturday, February 24, 2018, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Elmo Hiatt, with Mr. Hiatt’s body lying-in-state 45 minutes before the service starts. The family will receive friends at the funeral home immediately following the service. Burial will be after the visitation in the Mountain View Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
