Lloyd "Papa" Moses Baker, Jr.

Mr. Lloyd Moses Baker, Jr., age 73 of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday evening December 30, 2023.  He was born March 12, 1950, in Buchanan County, VA to the late Lloyd Moses Baker, Sr. and Violet Mae Fields Baker.  Papa was a family man who loved to spoil the grandkids as much as he could.  He loved his family, and they meant the world to him.  He also loved to fish, hunt, and go to the local flea markets and auctions.  Mr. Baker is survived by his wife of 39 years, Mary Frances Stacy Baker; four daughters, Jennifer Baker, Denise Lawson, Teresa and Robert Banks, and Ginny Dollyhigh; a son, Lloyd Baker, III; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Frances Gobble; brother and sister-in-law, Doug and Lisa Baker; a special friend, Curtis Bryant; and many other family and friends.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Baker was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Bucky Lawson; grandson, Eric Brandon Lawson; great-granddaughter, Baby Emma Mae Arrington; sister, Connie Baker Johnson; and a brother, Gary Edgar Baker.  A celebration of Papa’s life will be held on Monday January 1, 2024, at 3:00pm in the Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Randall Smith officiating.  The family will receive friends on Monday at the funeral home from 2:00-3:00pm.  A special thank you to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for all of the love and compassion given to Lloyd during his illness.  Also, a special thank you to the King Christian Center for all of their prayers and help during this trying time.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
