Mrs. Lois Faye Atkins Christian, 79, of Westfield, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday night, January 23, 2023. Mrs. Christian was born April 22, 1943, in Surry County, one of ten children born to the late Harley and Callie Mae Haymore Atkins. Lois used her creativity and talents to bless others throughout her life. She was an accomplished seamstress, an excellent cook, and an avid gardener. Lois was an extremely proud “Memaw” to her seven precious grandchildren, and she attended every basketball game, volleyball match, soccer match, equestrian event, pageant, Scouting event, and JROTC Raider event that she could. Lois enjoyed attending Highland Park Baptist Church and was a member of Westfield Baptist Church for 47 years. In the community, she volunteered countless hours during the ‘70s and ‘80s with the Westfield Fire Department Ladies’ Auxiliary. Lois was a devoted wife and mother, always working hard as a homemaker on the family farm. Additionally, she loved to travel, especially with her family. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Larry Grant Christian of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sebrina and Shane Mabe and Sherri and David Parks, all of Pilot Mountain, and Stephanie and Charles Hardin of Forest City; seven loving grandchildren, Christian Mabe, Luke Mabe, Hallie Hardin, Saylor Hardin, Augusta Hardin, Harrison Parks, and Kate Margaret Parks; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Peggy Nichols, Joyce and Arvid Simmons, Barbie and Jerry Simmons, Ruth and Jerry Dollyhigh, and Sonny Westmoreland, all of Mount Airy, and Kay and Tandy Pell of Westfield; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Gable Atkins and Jerry and Harriet Atkins, all of Mount Airy; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Christian was preceded in death by a sister, Polly Westmoreland; and a brother, Broadus Atkins. A service of worship and celebration of Lois’ life will be held Saturday, January 28, 2023, at 12:00 PM at Highland Park Baptist Church, with Dr. Darrell Tate, the Rev. Jim Richland, and Dr. Will Eads officiating. Interment will follow in the Westfield Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10:30 until 12:00 PM at Highland Park Baptist Church. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and compassion shown by her devoted sisters, friends, family, and the Westfield community. Also, the family is grateful for the tender, loving care provided from Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 1427 Edgewood Drive, Suite 101, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
