Mrs. Lois Anne Moore Hiatt, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and dear friend, has gone home to be with our Heavenly Father after a courageous battle with breast and ovarian cancer. Through all of her struggles, she never lost faith. Mrs. Hiatt, 67, passed away Monday, June 27, 2011, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born August 29, 1943, in Surry County, the daughter of the late James William and Vergie Imogene Gunnell Moore. She was a woman of Proverbs 31: "A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life. She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: "Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all." Give her the reward she has earned, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate." She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Patrick and Susan Hiatt of Ararat, VA; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jennifer and Jon Black of Greensboro and Stephanie and Kelly Goins of Claudville, VA; six grandchildren, Benjamin and Audrey Hiatt, Ethan and Anthony Goins, and Malcolm and Anna Claire Black; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Nancy Haynes of Ararat, VA, Helen and Fred Gwynn of Ararat, VA, and Dare and Henry Kimbrough of Mount Ulla; and three sisters-in-law, Mary Ruth Shaw, Janice Hiatt, and Perlie Hiatt, all of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hiatt was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Rufus Hiatt. She graduated from Blue Ridge High School in 1961. She retired from Wachovia in 2010 after 20 years of service. She was an active member of Flat Rock Baptist Church. The funeral service will be held Thursday, June 30, 2011, at 11:00 AM at Flat Rock Baptist Church, with Dr. Jon Cawley and the Rev. Fonda Younger officiating. Burial will follow at Midkiff Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where the body will remain until the time to be taken to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Flat Rock Baptist Church Choir Fund, P.O. Box 587, Mount Airy, NC 27030 or Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
