Mrs. Lois Sutphin Short, 96, of 165 Virginia Street, Mount Airy, passed away Thursday, July 29, 2010, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. She was born November 19, 1913, in Surry County, to the late George Lee and Sarah Hicks Sutphin. She was a member of Victory Baptist Church and retired from the Mock Judson Hosiery Company. Surviving are a daughter, Deby S. Stinson of Ormond Beach, FL; a son and daughter-in-law, Tony S. and Ann Short of Winston-Salem; six grandchildren and their spouses, Annette and Jack Hodges of Cummings, GA, Lisa and Milt Hobbs of New Fairfield, CT, Jeff and Michelle Lackey of Ocala, FL, Scott Lackey of Ocala, FL, Dr. Shawn and Carla Stinson of Columbia, SC, and Fauntella and Dan Lowe of Irmo, SC; eleven great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Savannah Midkiff and Betty Key, both of Mount Airy; and a brother, Joe Sutphin of Winston-Salem. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Short was preceded in death by her husband, Walter O. Short; a daughter, Dorothy S, Lackey; two sons-in-law, Jerry Lackey and Jerry Stinson; four sisters, Bessie Short, Maggie Hiatt, Frances McAdams, and Clarice Hall; and four brothers, John Sutphin, Abb Sutphin, Jack Sutphin, and Don Sutphin. The funeral service will be held Saturday, July 31, 2010, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Garland Hall and the Rev. Bryan Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at 3:00 PM Saturday, July 31, 2010, in the Guilford Memorial Park in Greensboro. The family will receive friends Friday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
