Mrs. Lola Alice Weddle Hiatt, 86, of 146 West Lebanon Street, Mount Airy, passed away Sunday, September 30, 2007, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Hiatt was born November 11, 1920, in Carroll County, VA, to the late Rufus and Caroline Josephine Thomas Weddle. She was a homemaker and a member of Willow Hill Moravian Church. Mrs. Hiatt is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and James Pitts of Mount Airy; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce and Connie Hiatt and Larry and Janice Hiatt, all of Cana, VA; two granddaughters and spouses, Nichole Burke and Mark Stanley of Mount Airy and Dana Hiatt and Kamron Benfield of Rural Hall; and a great-granddaughter, Anya Hiatt Benfield of Rural Hall. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hiatt was preceded in death by her husband, Vogel Hiatt; two sisters, Pauline Hall and Mamie Scott; and four brothers, Clyde Weddle, Howard Weddle, Arlys Weddle, and the Rev. Wayne Weddle. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 3, 2007, at 2:00 PM at Willow Hill Moravian Church. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Chuck Harmon and the Rev. Ray Benfield, and burial will follow at Willow Hill Moravian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state one hour before the funeral service.
