Lola Belle Childress Jenkins

Mrs. Lola Belle Childress Jenkins, 80, of Dobson went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 31, 2009 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical as her loving family surrounded her bedside. She was born in Surry County on May 4, 1928 to the late John David and Lucy Bledsoe Childress. Mrs. Jenkins lived her life dedicated to God and her family. She was a homemaker and a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church and shared a great love for gospel music with her family, who formed the Jenkins Trio. An inspiration to all she met, Mrs. Jenkins will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She leaves to cherish her memory the love of her life, Connie William Jenkins with whom she made her life for sixty-five years. Unto this union were born three daughters, Barbara Jean and husband Ray Reece, Brenda Sue Colvard and husband Larry and Gaye J. and Charles Rogers all of Dobson; five grandchildren, William Edward Reece, Jennifer and husband Derek McBride, Stephony and husband Chip Grubbs, Tina and husband Jonathan Hodges and Mandy and husband Matt Royall; five great-grandchildren, Bailey and Garrett Cave, Grace and Faith Hodges and Trey Grubbs; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Fred and Faye Childress of Mt. Airy and Homer J. Childress of Dobson; several special nieces, nephews and a host of friends and neighbors. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Jenkins was preceded in death by five sisters; three brothers; a grandson, Steven Colvard and a great-granddaughter, Brooklyn Isabella Grubbs. Her funeral service will be held at 2 PM Tuesday February 3, 2009 at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church by Rev. Barlow Stanley, Brother Don Collins and Brother Barry O'Neal. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6 to 9 PM at Mount Pleasant Baptist where her body will remain until the hour of the service. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Edna Stanley, Carolyn Wood, Ray Floyd, Colene Newman and to all her special nieces, nephews and friends for all their love and support during this difficult time.
