Mr. Lonnie Ray Atkins, age 80 of Mount Airy, passed away on Wednesday night, April 17, 2024, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Atkins was born on February 28, 1944, in Surry County to the late Clandis Wilson and Violet Fulk Atkins. Lonnie was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Surviving is his wife of 57 years, Rita Venable Atkins; two sons, Terry Atkins and Summer, Travis Atkins; grandchildren, Tyler Jones, Dylan Hiatt; Triston Atkins, Carley Rae Atkins; sister and brother-in-law, Shirley Dollarhite and Gilmer; brothers and sisters-in-law, Daryl Atkins and Betty, Larry Atkins; sister-in-law, Debbie Atkins; along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Atkins was proceeded in death by a daughter, Tilda Gaye Atkins; sister, Rita Atkins Nichols; and brothers, C.W. Atkins, and Bruce Atkins. A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 22, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Collins and Rev. Dale Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Rock Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, April 22, 2024, at Moody Funeral Home from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Surry Health and Rehabilitation for the loving care given to Mr. Atkins. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy has been entrusted with the arrangements.
