Mr. Lonnie Randle Bateman, Sr. , age 83, passed away on November 25, 2024, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, North Carolina.
Born September 25, 1941, Ararat Virginia to Mildred “Opal” Bowman Bateman and Donald Bateman.
Left to cherish his memory are sons and daughters-in-law Lonnie (Randy) Bateman, Jr. and Carol Bateman, Craig and Cindy Bateman; Grandchildren Jennifer Smith, Josh Bateman, Alexandria Bateman, Austin Bateman (Raina), Kyle Bateman(Madison), and Emily Bateman; and 9 great-grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law Judy Wilson, Carolyn Woodruff, Lavonda Kirkman, Mickie and Keith Martin, and Sharon Bateman; brother and sister-in-law Lee and Susie Bateman. He is also survived by his first wife Ruth Goins and many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was a lifetime restaurant owner in New Jersey where he made many friends, an avid bowler and a lover of his Harley Davidson motorcycle.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Bateman was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Lois Bateman, son Danny Bateman, former wife Nelia Grace Autry, brothers-in-law Gary Kirkman, David Woodruff, Buster Davis and nephews Alan Love and Scott Tesh.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 30, 2024, from 11:30 AM until 1:30 PM at Moody Funeral home in Mount Airy. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Doe Run Baptist Church Cemetery by Dr. David Sparks and Mr. Lonnie Bateman, Jr.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, North Carolina 27017. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy has been entrusted with the arrangements.
