Mr. Lonnie Junior Danley, 71, of Mount Airy, passed away early Saturday morning, April 17, 2021, at Central Continuing Care. Mr. Danley was born August 28, 1949, in Surry County, the son of the late Floyd Lee and Beulah Viola Fulk Danley. Lonnie enjoyed mowing for folks in the Dobson area for many years, along with picking up aluminum cans from the roadside. He was a member of Blackwater Baptist Church. He is survived by a stepson, James “Jimmy” Upchurch of Mount Airy; a stepgrandson, Darius Upchurch of Mount Airy; a sister-in-law, Mamie Potts of Mount Airy; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews, including a special great-nephew, Robert “R.P.” Potts of Dobson. In addition to his parents, Mr. Danley was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Mae Upchurch Danley; and a stepgrandson, Allen Upchurch. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 21, 2021, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Timmy Crotts officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwater Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 10:00 until 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Due to public health concerns, attendees are requested to wear a face mask and practice social distancing. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and compassion shown by the staff at Central Continuing Care.
