Mr. Lonnie Webster Tickle, Jr., 84, of Winston-Salem, passed away Monday morning, December 13, 2010, at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Tickle was born February 18, 1926, in Surry County, son of the late Lonnie Webster Tickle, Sr. and Stella Holder Tickle. Lonnie attended Mount Airy High School. He served our country as a rear gunner and sergeant in the United States Army Air Force during World War II. He flew sixteen combat missions as a crew member on a B-24, flying with the 15th Air Force in Italy. Mr. Tickle worked in his family's business, Tickle Standard Auto Parts, for all of his life. Lonnie was a former president of the Mount Airy Jaycees and the White Pines Country Club. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Lynda Tickle McNeeley and Bill McNeeley of Atlanta, GA; two sons, Robert Lonnie Tickle and Steven Dukes Tickle, both of Clemmons; five grandchildren, Dukes Tickle, Mary Anne Tickle, Michael Tickle, William Webster McNeeley, and Ryan Webster Tickle; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Kathren Tickle of Ormond Beach, FL. In addition to his parents, Mr. Tickle was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Anne Dukes Tickle; and two sisters, Mabel Tickle and Hazel Simmons. A memorial service will be held Friday, December 17, 2010, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Todd E. Byrd officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
