Lora Martin

Ms. Lora Martin, 90, of Elkin, passed away Wednesday, February 21, 2007 at Elkin Healthcare. She was born in Surry County on January 4, 1917 to the late Thomas Hamlin and Bessie Venable Martin. Ms. Martin was a retired Bookkeeper and Receptionist for Mother Murphy's Laboratories in Greensboro and was a member of Salem Fork Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Survivors include two nieces, Susan Doane of Galax, VA and Jane McCoy of Battle Creek, Michigan; two nephews Stephen V. Sprinkle of Fort Worth, Texas and Philip M. White of Raleigh, NC; a sister Joyce Steeby of Mt. Airy, NC. In addition to her parents, Ms. Martin was preceded in death by two sisters, Irene White and Hazel Sprinkle; two brothers, Spencer Martin and Ray Martin. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Sunday February 25, 2007 in the chapel of Moody-Davis Funeral Home of Dobson with Rev. Jim Mauldin officiating. Burial will follow in the Salem Fork Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM on Saturday at Moody-Davis Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Salem Fork Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 2245 Zephyr Road Dobson, NC 27017. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Elkin Healthcare for the love and care given to Ms. Martin during her stay there.
