Mrs. Martha “Lorraine” Harrell Tate, age 88, of Mount Airy, gained her angel wings early Wednesday morning, May 15, 2024, with her loving family by her side. Mrs. Lorraine, “Grandma Tate”, Mama, as many knew her as was born November 18, 1935, to the late Arthur and Fannie Vernon Harrell. She was known as a woman of courage and strength, that always put her family first, and instilled what family was supposed to be. Lorraine could be found tending to her flowers or tending to the garden, or even having her mouth full of snuff “Big G”. There never was a dull or sad moment while in the presence of Mrs. Lorraine, her most favorite time was getting together her whole family in times of the holidays. Mama, Grandma, will be forever missed, and most fondly remembered by all that knew her. Lorraine is survived by her most beloved and adored husband of 71 years, Edgar “Edd” Tate of the home, daughters and sons-in-law, Linda Taylor and David, Susie Holt and Norman, Phyllis Martin and Ansley, Valerie Dollyhite and Melvin; sons and daughter-in-law; Dennis Tate and Freida, Steve Tate and Kitty; daughter-in-law, Sharon Kay Tate; grandchildren which she loved dearly, Christy Partin, Misty Boyer, Tammy Delp, Chad Smith, Carrie Edwards, Wayne Tate, and Burt Tate, Ansley Martin Jr., Cindy Martin, Jason Tate, Ocean Rowe, Brooke Goins and Bree Dollyhite; 27 great-grandchildren; 2 great great-grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 6 step great-grandchildren, and 3 step great great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Tate was preceded in death by a son, James Tate; sisters, Louise, Kathleen, Margaret, Betty; brothers, Robert, Junior, Powell, Vestal, and Elmo; great-grandchild, Chapin Lee Dollyhite A celebration of Mrs. Lorraine’s life will be held Monday, May 20th, 2024, at 2PM at The Peoples Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Rick Jackson and Rev. Jerry Pardue officiating. Per Lorraine’s request, there will not be any formal visitation. The family would like to thank everyone for their love, prayers, and support during her sickness. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
