Lottie Rachel Edwards Morton

Ms. Lottie Rachel Edwards Morton, 87, of 1110 Newsome Street, Mount Airy, passed away Sunday, October 22, 2006, at her home. Ms. Morton was born July 14, 1919, in Patrick County, VA, to the late Thomas Jeff and Lizzie Tate Edwards. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. She is survived by Grady Hiatt, special companion for many years, three daughters and a son-in-law, Thelma Glass of the home, Clara Mae and Gary Goins of Mount Airy, and Patty Sue Morton of Dobson; three sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and Katherine Slate, Billy and Jennie Morton, and Hurley and Diane Morton, all of Mount Airy; 24 grandchildren, 61 great grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren, a sister, Ellen Ladd of Mount Airy; and two brothers and a sister-in-law, Paul and Jean Edwards and Jesse Edwards, all of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Ms. Morton was preceded in death by her husbands, Vestal Slate and James Morton, three sons, James Russell Slate, James Wesley Morton, and Larry Jerome Morton; four grandchildren, and one great grandchild, three sisters, Nannie Tate, Violet Edwards and Velma Gwyn; and a brother, Jeff Edwards. Funeral services will be held 3:30 PM Wednesday, October 25, 2006 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel of Mt. Airy conducted by Rev. Tony White and Rev. Benny Faw. Burial will follow in the Sandy Ridge Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends 7-9 PM Tuesday night at Moody Funeral Home where her body will remain until the hour of the service.
