Mr. Louis "Lou" Nick Butera, 79, of Edenton, passed away Thursday, May 14, 2009, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Lou was born in Calabria, Italy. He spent ten years in the United States Marines and retired from the United States Army twelve years later as a Chief Warrant Officer. Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, John and Patt Butera of Mount Airy and Sergeant Major Mark Butera of Ft. Meade, MD; five grandchildren, Eric, Ian, Jessica, Josh, and Aaron Butera; a brother, Joe Butera, Lake MI; and two sisters, Purina Cimeno and Elvira Bull, both of California. Mr. Butera was preceded in death by his parents and his grandson, Stephen Butera. There will be no formal visitation. The family plans to take him back to the North Carolina Outer Banks for a special memorial service. Memorials may be made to the Joan and Howard Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017. The Butera family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home for the wonderful care given to Lou during his stay.
