Louis M. Howell

Mr. Louis M. Howell, 79, of Mount Airy, passed away Friday, February 27, 2009, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. Mr. Howell was born November 4, 1929, in Wilkes County, to Luther M. and Esther Mae Emerson Howell. He served our country in the United Sates Army in the 82nd Airborne division and retired from Bassett Furniture. Mr. Howell worked in his beloved flea market business for many years before and after his retirement. Surviving are three daughters and a son-in-law, Janet H. Horton of Mount Airy, Paula H. McDowell of Cornelius, and Amy and Kevin Dawson of Mount Airy; two sons, Dennis Howell of Jonesville and Wesley Howell of Mount Airy; grandchildren, Alexander Howell, Virginia H. Westmark, William Horton, Stacie Horton, Benjamin Jennings, Nicholas Jennings, and Jacob Howell; six great-grandchildren; a step-great-grandchild; a sister, Mattie Lou Banach of Redding, CA; and a brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Carolyn Howell of Tulsa, OK. In addition to his parents, Mr. Howell was preceded in death by two sons, David Howell and James Howell; and a granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Horton. The funeral service will be held Sunday, March 1, 2009, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Vladimir Strejcek officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at the funeral home.
