Mrs. Louise Estelle Mears Cockerham, 83, of Mount Airy, passed away Sunday, August 28, 2011, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Cockerham was born July 9, 1928, in Surry County, to the late Joseph H. and Annie Pruitt Mears. She was a homemaker and a member of Faith Baptist Church. Mrs. Cockerham is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Clifford O. "Chris" Cockerham of Mount Airy and Kenneth G. and Phyllis A. Cockerham of Collinsville, VA; five grandchildren, Kenneth Gray Cockerham, II, Tara R. Cockerham, Andre D. Cockerham, Amy L. Akers, and Kim Bess; six great-grandchildren; four sisters, Pauline Jackson, Betty Simmons, Sally Mears, and Mary White; and a sister-in-law, Louise Mears. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cockerham was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Ford Cockerham; a sister, Lois Long; and three brothers, Claude Mears, Ramey Mears, and Tom Mears. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 30, 2011, at 11:00 AM at Faith Baptist Church, with the Rev. Randy Edwards officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday from 7:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the National Kidney Foundation, North Carolina Region, 4819 Park Road, Suite C, Charlotte, NC 28209-3842.
