Mrs. Louise Davis Tilley, age 95, of Ararat, NC was welcomed into heaven on Monday morning surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Tilley was born December 27, 1926, to Wesley J Davis and Lillie A. Davis. She was a wonderful and loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and will be dearly missed by her family and all who knew and loved her. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Liz Tilley of Pilot Mountain; daughter and son-in-law, Lennis and Calvin Worley of Pilot Mountain and a daughter, Lisa Tilley and special friend, Steve Bottoms of Ararat, NC; seven grandchildren, Bridget and husband, Jamie Willoughby of Pilot Mountain, Josh and wife, Karrie Tilley of Chapel Hill; Bryanna and husband, Adam Baker of Shoals, Molly and husband, H.R. White of Wilmington, Joseph and wife, Katie Ferguson of Pilot Mountain, Emily and husband, Ryan Martin of Pilot Mountain and Abigail Worley and fiancé, Cody Leonard of Hamptonville; 16 great-grandchildren, Garrett Willoughby, Carson Willoughby, Hannah Baker, Emma Baker, River Baker, Katie Willoughby, Maddie Tilley, Angel Nelson, McKenzie Tilley, Barrett White, Remi Baker, Hayden White, Georgia Baker, Sawyer Martin, Beau Baker and Tucker Martin; brother, Milton Davis of Charlotte; sister and brother-in-law, Linda & Terry Tucker of Pilot Mountain and brother and sister-in-law, Mitchell & Kay Davis of Yadkinville. She was preceded in death by the love of her life of 62 years, Roby Tilley; an infant daughter, Joan Kay; her father, W.J. Davis; her mother, Lillie Davis; and sister, Lucille Tilley. Mrs. Tilley’s life shared the message of her Lord and everyone that met her knew He was the most important thing in her life and next was her family. She was a master pumpkin pie maker and an exceptional cook. She loved crocheting, knitting and quilting and was a member of the Home Demonstration Club of Eldora for many years. She enjoyed her time working in the family business “Tilley’s Sandwich Shop” alongside Roby. She also worked at Amos Smith Hosiery, Hardee’s, and The Colmant House. She took pride in cleaning the church and was always found busy. Mrs. Tilley was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church of Ararat, NC and shared her love for music by singing and being the choir director for 66 years. In her early years, she shared her talent with the Mount Zion Quartet and enjoyed many radio broadcasts with Ralph Epperson on WPAQ and on WBOB in Galax, VA. In her later years, you could find her singing with groups and going to local nursing homes until her health would not allow. The funeral service will be held on Friday, February 18 at 11:30am at the Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mt. Airy. The family will receive friends and family prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:30am. The service will be conducted by Pastor Daniel Ritchey and Pastor Sammy Lawson. Burial will follow in the Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, Ararat, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery Fund in care of Tom Simmons 2728 Ararat Rd., Ararat, NC 27007; Ararat Volunteer Fire Department, 1415 Ararat Rd, Ararat, NC 27007 or Mountain Valley Hospice & Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family will be gathering at the home of Lennis and Calvin Worley of Pilot Mountain. The family would like to thank the staff of Universal Health Care in King for the love and care given to Louise during her stay. The family would also like to thank Mountain Valley Hospice for their service during her last days and their many friends for their support and kindness shown during this difficult time.
