Love Banner Diffee Smith

 Mrs. Love Banner Diffee Smith, age 92, of Mount Airy passed away at her home on Monday, May 23, 2022. Mrs. Smith was born December 28, 1929, in Greensboro to Love Banner Diffee and James Marsh Diffee, Jr. She grew up in Georgetown, graduated from Holton-Arms Preparatory School, Bethesda, MD and attended Mary Baldwin College. She was an avid bridge player and an enthusiastic sports fan. She loved tennis, football, golf and basketball, especially Duke University. Mrs. Smith was a long-time member of Central United Methodist Church in Mount Airy as well as a member of Cross Creek Country Club. Left to cherish her memory are her children, James Raymond Smith, II and wife, Pamela Fulp Smith, and Michael David Smith and wife, Stacey Bruneau Smith; grandchildren, Louisa Love Smith (Jerry Bennett), Jamie Smith King (Allen King), James Raymond Smith III (Manika Gupta), Joseph Graham Rutledge Smith and Chloe Elizabeth Smith; great-grandchildren, Brian Bennett, John Bennett, Franklin Bennett and Hunter Largen. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Alfred Smith, and two brothers, James Marsh Diffee, III and William Sherman Diffee. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, May 29, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Oakdale Cemetery with services conducted by Reverend Danny Miller. The family will receive friends following the service at Cross Creek Country Club in Mount Airy. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Susan G. Komen Foundation, 13770 Noel Road, Suite 801889, Dallas, Texas 75380. Moody Funeral Service in Mount Airy is serving the Smith family.
