Lucille Cockerham

Mrs. Lucille Johnson Cockerham, 85, of Mount Airy, passed away early Friday morning, July 6, 2018, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem.  Mrs. Cockerham was born April 28, 1933, in Surry County, one of seven children born to the late Elbert and Mimi McCraw Johnson.  Lucille retired as an inspector from Quality Mills after 45 years of dedicated service and was a member of the Christian faith.  She lived a simple life and demonstrated a special love to her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren each day.  She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah Gail and Bob Schumaker of Dobson and Sandra and Jeff Beamer of Buford, GA; her grandchildren, Alan and Jennifer Beamer of Atlanta, GA, and Janell and Kevin Monette of Dacula, GA; two great-grandchildren, Madeline Beamer and Alexander Beamer, both of Atlanta, GA; four sisters and a brother-in-law, Betty Bowman of Galax, VA, Myrtle Bullins of Dobson, Artis Hiatt of Mount Airy, and Darlene and John Young of Cayce, SC; a brother, Ralph Johnson of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cockerham was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Woodrow Cockerham; and a brother, Chester Johnson.  A graveside service will be held Monday, July 9, 2018, at 11:30 AM at New Life Baptist Church Cemetery, with Bruce Mosley officiating.  The family will receive friends Monday from 10:00 until 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, and other times at her home.
