Lucille Bates Davis, 78, of Charlotte, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 15, 2007, at Presbyterian Hospital, surrounded by her family following a courageous battle with bone marrow disease and leukemia. Mrs. Davis was born June 6, 1929, in Mount Airy, and was the youngest daughter of the late Barney R. and Dovie Reece Bates. Mrs. Davis resided in Charlotte for most of her adult life and retired from Sears in 1985 after 28 years of service. She was a beloved and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and new great-grandmother. She was a member of Calvary Church in Charlotte. Lucille is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, Milton A. Davis; a son, Larry W. Davis and wife, Linda, of Greensboro; two grandsons, Peyton W. Davis, M.D. of Mooresville and Preston B. Davis, Attorney-at-Law, and his wife, Brooke, and great-granddaughter, Alexis, of Atlanta, GA. She is also survived by two sisters, Ruth B. Tucker and husband, Ralph, of Raleigh, and Ruby B. Watson of Mount Airy, along with numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Tuesday, December 18, 2007, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, conducted by Dr. Rick Walker. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:30 to 8:30 at the funeral home, and other times at the home of Milton A. Davis, 3201 Nancy Creek Road, Charlotte. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 5950 Fairview Road, Suite 250, Charlotte, NC 28210.
