Mrs. Mary Lucille Childress Floyd, 79, of Mount Airy, passed into the more immediate presence of the Lord on Monday, March 14, 2011. Mrs. Floyd was born July 30, 1931, in Surry County, to George Harbert and Mossie Cornelia Pruett Childress. Mrs. Floyd and her husband, "Pea Vine," formerly owned and operated Blue Ridge Restaurant for 20 years. She retired from Northern Hospital of Surry County after 25 years of service and was a member of Fancy Gap Baptist Church. Lucille was such a wonderful friend to so many and will be truly missed by all her many friends and loved ones. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Joey and Frankie Casstevens Floyd of Mount Airy; two granddaughters, Mandy Floyd and Mary Floyd; her dearest and best friend of 30 years, Brenda Edmonds of Mount Airy; a beloved friend, Jennifer LeFevre and her husband, Gerald, and special young friend, Caleb; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Floyd was preceded in death by her husband, Dalvin "Pea Vine" Floyd; a daughter, Joyce Faye Floyd; four sisters, Georgia Coble, Jane Pack, Polly Gulotta, and Hazel Childress; and three brothers, Ray Childress, Clinton Childress, and Fred Childress. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Fancy Gap Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dwight Sechrist, the Rev. Tommy Floyd, and the Rev. Gerald LeFevre officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1:00 PM until the hour of the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030 or the Alzheimer's Association, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Suite 999, Charlotte, NC 28215-3220. The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to Dunmore Plantation and Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for the wonderful care given to Mrs. Floyd during her time with them.
