Lucy Ann Tate Ayers

Mrs. Lucy Ann Ayers, age 93 of Cana, widow of Ewell Ayers passed away Thursday, August 21, 2008 at Northern Hospital of Surry County in Mt. Airy. Mrs. Ayers was born on January 21, 1915 in Carroll County to the late Caleb and Lou McCraw Tate. Mrs. Ayers was a homemaker and a member of Bear Trail Baptist Church. Surviving are three daughters and two sons-in-law, Betty Collins, Dot and Johnny Vernon all of Cana, Christine and Charlie Mabe of Mt. Airy; eight sons and six daughters-in-law, J.C. Ayers of the home, Jimmy and Dawn Ayers, Bobby and Marcie Ayers, Troy and Ann Ayers all of Cana, Clinton and Sandra Ayers of Dobson, J.D. and Bonnie Ayers of Mt. Airy; Kenneth Ayers, Daniel and Shirley Ayers all of Cana; 26 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren; fourteen great-great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Ayers was preceded in death by a son, Richard. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM, Sunday, August 24, 2008 at Bear Trail Baptist Church in Cana, VA by Rev. Timmy Crotts and Rev. Todd Byrd with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will accept friends at Bear Trail Baptist Church, Saturday, August 23, 2008 from 7:00 until 9:00 PM. Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy is assisting the Ayers family.
