Mr. Lugene Wilson Ashburn age 78 of 1002 South Franklin Road, Mount Airy, departed this life October 21, 2007 at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, April and Ed Atkins. He was born June 1, 1929 in Mount Airy to the late Robert and Emma Ashburn. Lugene was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 52 years, Peggy Watts Ashburn. He graduated from Mount Airy High School and attended Surry Community College. Mr. Ashburn was the owner and operator of Mobile Manor Trailer Sales and Pleasant Acres Mobile Home Sales. He and his beloved wife were also owners and administrators of Silver Chimes Manor Assisted Living Facility in Mount Airy. He enjoyed teaching Sunday School Classes and participating in church activities prior to his illness. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, April and Ed Atkins of Mount Airy and Rhonda and Rev. Eugene Brinkley of Pilot Mountain; four grandchildren and spouses, Miriam and Brian Goff of Kings Mountain, Rebekah and Wesley Mosteller of Cana, Candace and Michael Needham of Mount Airy and Mark Atkins of the home; six great-grandchildren, Elijah Mosteller, Abigail Mosteller, Emma Goff, Alexander Goff, Luke Needham and Andrew Needham; one sister, Loraine Lee of Winston-Salem; one brother, Eugene Ashburn of Fayetteville; sister and brother-in-law, Becky and Stephen Stanley of Greensboro; nephew and niece, Barrett and Joanna Stanley; a great niece, Rowan Stanley and a special friend, Bonnie Hardy. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the ladies who provided daily care in the home, Leola McMillian, Zelphia Shropshire and Irene Milan. Also special thanks to Dr. Roger Kerley, Surry County Home Health Nurses and CNA's, especially to Sondra Davis. In addition to his wife Mr. Ashburn was preceded in death by a sister, Eilene Zimmerman. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 23, 2007 at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel. The service will be conducted by Rev. Arnold Wall with burial to follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home on Monday night from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
