Mrs. Lula Elizabeth Owens George, age 98 of Mount Airy, passed away on Monday, July 11, 2022, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson.  Mrs. George was born in Guilford County on June 17, 1924, to the late Roy Lee and Alice Lucy Jessup Owens.  Lula was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.  Lula enjoyed planting flowers and trees in her yard, then making memories surrounding them with her family.  She left a legacy of giving and caring for her children.  She will be deeply missed by all that knew her.  Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Glenda Jessup of Winston-Salem, Susan and J.R. Arrington of Mount Airy, Faye and Steve Slawter of Siloam; sons and daughter-in-law, Howard Hunter of Hillsville; grandchildren, Jennifer Clayton and Kevin, Amanda Miller and Keith, Shaun Hunter and Laura, Derrick Hunter and Lynn, Bruce Boyd and Georgie; great-grandchildren, Caden James Clayton, Jesselyn Noel Clayton, Molly Hunter Holt, Ryan Hunter, Lathan Hunter and Katy, Nolan Miller, Owen Miller; sisters and brothers-in-law, Rachel Scott, Mary Lou Price and Bobby, Shirley Walker Booth and Ronnie, Bobbie Gillespie; and one brother, Joe Bill Owens.  In an addition to her parents, Mrs. George was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Thomas George; son-in-law, Lynn Jessup; a sister; Betty Jane Guthrie; four brothers, Junior Owens, Curtis Owens, and Dewey Owens.  A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy with Rev. Eugene Brinkley officiating.  Burial will follow in the Simmons Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 16, 2022, at Moody Funeral Home from 12:30 PM until 2:00 PM. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice, especially caregivers, Amber and Angel, for all of the loving, compassionate, and gentle care given to Mrs. George during her illness.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 1427 Edgewood Drive, suite 101, Mount Airy, North Carolina 27030.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
