Miss Lula Way Turner, 90, of Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2009, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Miss Turner was born January 15, 1919, in Alamance County, to J.B. and Jenny Lee Cranford Turner. She retired from Renfro Corporation and Northern Hospital of Surry County and was a member of Rockford Street United Methodist Church. Miss Turner was such a dear and sweet person who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Surviving are a brother, Frank Turner of Summerville, SC; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Miss Turner was preceded in death by seven sisters, Pearl Hillard, Evelyn Curl, Bertha Hodgin, Effie Hall, Mary Edna Harper, Gwyn Butler, and Frances Parris; and two brothers, Eugene Turner and Julius Turner. The funeral service will be held Friday, August 7, 2009, at 2:00 PM at Rockford Street United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Glenda Bramlet officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday at the church from 1:00 until the hour of the service. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions can be made to Rockford Street United Methodist Church, 488 Old Highway 601, Mount Airy, NC 27030; or to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
