Mr. Luther Lee Carpenter, 84, of 1982 Red Brush Road, Mount Airy, passed away Sunday, December 3, 2006, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center Palliative Care Unit in Winston-Salem. Mr. Carpenter was born April 16, 1922, in Surry County, to the late David and Emma Goings Carpenter. He was a farmer and attended Flower Gap Primitive Baptist Church He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jane and David Bean of Mount Airy; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dewey and Clair Carpenter, Johnny and Jan Carpenter, and Patty Sykes Carpenter, all of Mount Airy; nine grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Lorene and Dave Byrd of Bethania; a brother and sister-in-law, Preston and Opal Carpenter of Mount Airy; and a special friend, Josephine Norman of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Carpenter was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Marie Atkins Carpenter; a son, Roger Glenn Carpenter; twin great grandchildren, Corbin and Maggie Hensley; two sisters, Alice Carpenter and Magdalene Varner; and three brothers, Paul Carpenter, James Carpenter, and William Carpenter. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 6, 2006, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. The service will be conducted by Elder Alan Terry, Elder Kenneth Hopkins, and the Rev. Kenneth Jessup. Burial will follow in the Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the Palliative Care Unit and Sticht Center, c/o Sharon Haney, Medical Center Boulevard, Winston-Salem, NC 27157, or to the Flat Top Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o of Evelyn Payne 904 Tobe Hutson Road, Dobson, NC 27017. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Central Continuing Care and the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center Palliative Care and Stroke Unit for all their loving care and understanding.
