Luther Wallace Creed

Mr. Luther Wallace Creed, 77, of Mount Airy, was received into the loving arms of Jesus after a long fight with lung cancer on early Tuesday morning, September 13, 2016, at his home. Mr. Creed was born November 2, 1938, in Surry County, one of seven children born to the late F.J. “Levi” and Ernestine Hanks Creed. Wallace retired from the North Carolina Department of Corrections after 28 years of service and was a member of Little Mountain Baptist Church. He truly enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming, and spending time with his family and many friends. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Magdalene East Creed of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Candis and Joey Timmons and Sheila and Wayne Hylton, all of Mount Airy; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dewayne and Debbie Creed of Pilot Mountain and Jeffrey and Chrissy Creed of Mount Airy; twelve grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Sue and Blaine Brintle of Mount Airy and Jean and Billy Hicks of Pilot Mountain; a brother, the Rev. Roscoe Creed of Mount Airy; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Mario and Pat Rizzi of Swanton, OH, and Dean and Ellen Deter of Elk Creek. In addition to his parents, Mr. Creed was preceded in death by three sisters, Annie Creed Holyfield, Minnie Creed Atkins, and Jane Creed Danley. The funeral service will be held Thursday, September 15, 2016, at 2:00 PM at Little Mountain Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bill Watson and the Rev. Rayton Puckett officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 12:00 until 2:00 PM at Little Mountain Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030; or Moody Funeral Services, P.O. Box 1288, Mount Airy, NC 27030, to assist the family with the funeral expenses.
