Mrs. Mabel Marshall Thompson, 94, of Mount Airy, passed away Thursday morning, July 2, 2020, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson.  Mrs. Thompson was born November 11, 1925, in Patrick County, VA, the daughter of the late Clearn and Loudelia Largen Marshall.  Mabel was a homemaker and a member of Doe Run Baptist Church.  She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Joan Thompson Hardin and Margaret and Phillip Easter, all of Mount Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Cynthia Thompson of Mount Airy; her grandchildren, Jewel and Joshua Jones and Michelle and Michael Payne; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Benton Thompson; a son, Bruce Delano Thompson; five sisters, Earnie Quesinberry Edwards, Mary Elizabeth Mankins, Haley Eveline Fowler, Hattie Belle Bowman, and Nellie Bowman; and five brothers, Sherman Marshall, Jesse Wilbert Marshall, Cannie Alexander Marshall, Frank Marshall, and Clinton Marshall.  Respecting the current limitations of numbers for public gatherings at this time (COVID-19), a graveside service will be held Saturday, July 4, 2020, at 11:00 AM at Doe Run Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Joe Smith officiating.  No formal visitation will be held; however, family and friends may pay their respects on Friday from 12:00 noon until 5:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.  Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to the Doe Run Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 903 Doe Run Road, Ararat, VA  24053.
