Mrs. Madeline Richardson Handy, 84, of 106 Glenn Court, Mount Airy, passed away Sunday evening, June 20, 2010, at Central Continuing Care. Mrs. Handy was born April 22, 1926, in Alleghany County, the only child born to the late Lon and Myrtle Hendrix Richardson. She worked at Quality Mills for many years and was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Gene and Ruth Handy of Mount Airy and Mike and Gina Handy of Winston-Salem; a granddaughter, Brittany Handy of Winston-Salem; a grandson and his wife, Chris and Christy Handy of Mount Airy; and three great-grandsons, William Handy, Austin Handy, and Trey Handy, all of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Handy was preceded in death by her husband, William Mack "Bill" Handy. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Darrell Tate and the Rev. Bob Josey officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Highland Park Baptist Church, 1327 Grove Lane, Mount Airy, NC 27030 or to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Central Continuing Care and the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for all the care and thoughtfulness shown to Madeline during her illness.
