Madge Sylvia Gunter Gunnell

Ms. Madge Sylvia Gunter Gunnell, 89, of Ararat, passed away Monday, March 8, 2010, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mrs. Gunnell was born May 20, 1920, in Surry County, to the late James Charlie and Bertha Southern Gunter. She retired as a secretary from Surry Community College. She was a member of Rock Hill Baptist Church and was a Gold Star mother. She is survived by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Lema and Hoyal Jones of Ararat, NC, and Maude Hill of Ararat, VA; a caregiver and special sister-in-law, Hassie Gunter of Mount Airy; several nieces and nephews; and several great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gunnell was preceded in death by a son, Dale Alan Gunnell; and a brother, Charles C. Gunter. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Thursday, March 11, 2010, at Rock Hill Baptist Church, by the Rev. Lee Johnson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 10:00 until 11:00 AM at Rock Hill Baptist Church.
