Mae Marie Wolfe Atkins

Mrs. Mae Marie Wolfe Atkins, 88, of Mount Airy, went to be with the Lord on Sunday morning, August 25, 2013, while surrounded by her loving family. She was born December 7, 1924, in Surry County, the daughter of the late Willie and Huldah Davis Wolfe. Marie retired from Proctor-Silex Inc. after 35 years of service and attended Temple Baptist Church as long as her health permitted. She enjoyed working in her yard, baking cakes, cooking Sunday dinner for her family, and eating with friends at Hardee's. Marie also enjoyed going by to see her friends at Walmart. Mrs. Atkins loved spending time with family and friends as she never met a stranger, and she was a very giving person, demonstrated through her six wonderful kids, which she raised after the death of her husband in 1970. She is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Hal Heath, Margie and Jerry Moore, Bonnie and Avis Dalton, and Nancy and Phillip Thacker, all of Mount Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Tammy Atkins of Mount Airy; sixteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a brother, J.W. Wolfe of Dobson; a brother-in-law, Glenn Patterson of Staunton, VA; and a sister-in-law, Maggie Danley of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Atkins was preceded in death by her husband, Nathan Atkins; a daughter, Judy Atkins White; four sisters, Opal Carpenter, Viola Willard, Lena Mae Gilley, and Louise Patterson; and three brothers, Allen Wolfe, Fred Wolfe, and Robert Wolfe. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 27, 2013, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with Hal Heath, Wayne Hiatt, and Chaplain Robin Sides officiating. Burial will follow in the White Plains Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. The family may also be contacted at other times at Mrs. Atkins' home, 619 Cadle Ford Road, Mount Airy.
