Magdalene Sutphin

Mrs. Magdalene Phillips Sutphin, 96, of Mount Airy, passed away early Thursday morning, June 10, 2021, at Twelve Oaks Assisted Living Facility. Mrs. Sutphin was born June 2, 1925, in Cana, VA, the daughter of the late Alexander Franklin and Lucinda Rebecca Sechrist Phillips. She is survived by her children, Danny and Sandra Sutphin, Paulette and Johnny Surratt, and Rhonda and Terry McHone; her grandchildren, Jocelyn and Rod Pettey, Jarod and Jessie Sutphin, Jacob and Casey Surratt, Rebecca Surratt and Adam Eldridge, Hannah and Ryan Bunn, and Sarah Grace and Houston Downs; eight great-grandchildren, Luke Surratt, Lillian Surratt, Liza Surratt, Lydia Surratt, Zoey Sutphin, William Bunn, Kaitlyn Pettey, and Megan Pettey; her sisters, Beatrice Ferguson and Brenda Walden; her brothers and sister-in-law, Arlis and Mary Lee Phillips and Glenwood Phillips; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sutphin was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Elbert Sutphin; her sister, Leola McMillian; and her brothers, Virgil Phillips and Bernard Phillips. A private graveside service will be held at Skyline Memory Gardens and there will be no formal visitation.
