Maggie Lorene Evans Coe

Mrs. Maggie Lorene Evans Coe, 83, of 119 Summit Avenue, Mount Airy, went to her heavenly home on Friday, August 28, 2009. Mrs. Coe was born April 19, 1926, in Surry County, daughter of the late W.J. and Mary Dennis Evans. She retired from the apparel industry, having worked many years for Spencer's Incorporated and Perry Manufacturing. Mrs. Coe loved her home, family and friends, and enjoyed cooking and entertaining. She was a member of Bannertown Baptist Church for more than 50 years. Mrs. Coe was a devoted wife to her husband of 65 years, Porter James Coe. She is survived by a son, the Rev. Terry Lee Coe and his wife, Shelby Hill Coe, of Lakeland, FL. She is also survived by three granddaughters, Melissa Coe Whennell and her husband, Richard, of Bracknell, England, Michele Coe Tester and her husband, Tom, of Kernersville, and Melanie Coe Wallace and her husband, Aaron, of Wendell. She has seven great-grandchildren, Frederick Whennell, Harrison Whennell, John Thomas, Alex Tester, Michael Tester, Sydney Wallace, and Macy Wallace. Other survivors include a son-in-law, Robert Creed of Charlotte; a grandson-in-law, Rob Black of Columbia, SC; two nieces, Brenda Hiatt Lunsford and Lowana Galyean Slate, both of High Point; and special friends, Roger and Delores Jessup Hill of Mount Airy. Mrs. Coe was preceded in death by an infant son, Alan Rae Coe; and a loving daughter and granddaughter, Vicki Coe Creed and Jennifer Creed Black. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Myrtle Evans Galyean and Virginia Evans Hiatt; and five brothers, Jack Evans, Sam Evans, Ernest Evans, Woodrow Evans, and Charlie Evans. A visitation will be Tuesday, September 1, 2009, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Bannertown Baptist Church, with the funeral service immediately following. Burial will take place Wednesday morning, September 2, 2009, at 11:00 AM at Pine Hill Friends Meeting Cemetery.
