Mrs. Maggie Pearl Norman Galyean, 83, of 837 Holly Grove Road, Lambsburg, VA, passed away Thursday morning, August 27, 2009, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Galyean was born August 17, 1926, in Surry County, to the late Guy Duncan and Sarah McRoberts Norman. She was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist faith. She is survived by a daughter, Nellie Creed Johnson of Mount Airy; a son, Jimmy Roger "Jimbo" Galyean of the home; two grandsons and their spouses, Steven D. Kirkman, Jr. and Michelle of Mount Airy and Chris Galyean and Pepper of Lowgap; two great-grandchildren, Betsy Michelle Kirkman and Christopher Lee Galyean; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Addis and Sam Bryant of Lambsburg, VA, and Pat Atkins and Kenneth Sechrist of Mount Airy; a brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Marie Norman of Galax, VA; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Galyean was preceded in death by her first husband, Columbus Creed; her second husband, Edgar Monroe Galyean; four sisters, Marie Cranford, Maretta Bryant, Ocia Norman, and Anna Mae Norman; a brother, Marvin Norman; and a niece, Dawn Thompson. The funeral service will be held Saturday, August 29, 2009, at 2:00 PM at Holly Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Woody Flippen and the Rev. Jerry King officiating. Burial will follow in the Fishers Gap Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at Holly Grove Baptist Church. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the Lambsburg Rescue Squad and Holly Grove Baptist Church for their care and kindness shown to Pearl during her illness. In lieu of flowers or food, memorial contributions can be made to Moody Funeral Services, P.O. Box 1288, Mount Airy, NC 27030, to assist the family with the funeral expenses.
