Maggie Nelson Midkiff

Mrs. Maggie Nelson Midkiff, 94, of 407 Bluemont Road, Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday afternoon, April 13, 2010, at her home. Mrs. Midkiff was born June 27, 1915, in Carroll County, VA, daughter of the late Guy Oma and Mary Ellen Semones Nelson. She was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist faith. She is survived by four daughters and a son-in-law, Opal Lee and William Jones of Dobson, Guida Mae Midkiff of the home, Mary Ann Midkiff of Galax, VA, and Debbie Gay Midkiff of King; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Joe W. Midkiff of Rosman, Lonnie Elmen and Wanda Midkiff of Mount Airy, and Michael Ray Midkiff of the home; twenty-two grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a special family friend, Leon Cook of Mount Airy; and a special caregiver, Elizabeth Lowe of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Midkiff was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Midkiff; two daughters, Nancy Carol Reece and Sandra Kay Gunter; three sons, Jerry Wayne Midkiff, Jimmy Dean Midkiff, and Johnny Midkiff; two grandchildren, Chad Neil Midkiff and Tracey Lynn Midkiff; and eight brothers and sisters. The funeral service will be held Saturday, April 17, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Elmo Hiatt officiating. Burial will follow in the Nelson Family Cemetery in Fancy Gap, VA. The family will receive friends Friday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the funeral home.
