Maggie Ella Smith Smith

Mrs. Maggie Ella Smith Smith, 83, of 3657 Unity Church Road, Ararat, VA, passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2007, at Blue Ridge Nursing Center in Stuart, VA. Mrs. Smith was born May 20, 1924, in Surry County, NC, daughter of the late Ellis and Emma Anderson Smith. Maggie retired from Spencer's Inc. after 38 years of service and was a member of Unity Church in Ararat, VA. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Ray and Adeline Smith of South Boston, VA, Alton and Fern Smith of Mount Airy, NC, and Larry and Betty Smith of Ararat, VA; three grandchildren and a spouse, Brad Smith of South Boston, VA, Melissa and David Poston of Jamestown, NC, and Julie Smith of Mount Airy, NC; a great-grandson, Caleb Poston of Jamestown, NC; a sister, Mamie Dalton of Ararat, VA; and a brother and sister-in-law, Wilburn and Lucy Smith of Salem, VA. Mrs. Smith was blessed with many nieces, nephews, and extended church family. Also, she was blessed with fellowship of her special friends within the Ararat community. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, George P. Smith; two brothers, Preston Smith and Henry Smith; a half-sister, Pearl Gentry; and a half-brother, Joe Smith. The funeral service will be held Thursday, November 8, 2007, at 11:00 AM at Unity Church. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Buford Jessup, and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, NC, where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes before the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to Salvation Army, 651 South South Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
