Mr. Major Puckett, 75, of 198 Cranberry Lane, Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday morning, November 23, 2011, at Golden Living Center. Mr. Puckett was born October 1, 1936, in Surry County, the son of the late Dock and Ola Davis Puckett. Major farmed for many years and retired as a lumber packer from Noonkester Lumber Company. He is survived by his wife, Delta Cockerham Puckett of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Annette and Daniel Robertson of Mount Airy; a stepdaughter and her husband, Cheryl and Tim Craft of Mount Airy; a stepson, Gray Hawks of Mount Airy; seven grandchildren, Emily Robertson, Leslie Robertson, Megan Robertson, Melissa Ramey and her husband, Matthew, Shane Hawks, Dillon Hawks, and Jamie Taylor; two great-grandchildren, Eli Ramey and Lane Ramey; a brother, Manuel Puckett of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Puckett was preceded in death by two sisters, Margie Hall and Marie Easter; and two brothers, Joe Puckett and Harvey Puckett. The funeral service will be held Saturday, November 26, 2011, at 3:30 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Ronnie Robertson, Daniel Robertson, and the Rev. Sammy Lawson officiating. Burial will follow in the Zion Hill Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 2:00 until 3:30 PM at the funeral home, and other times at the home of Cheryl and Tim Craft, 2449 Pine Ridge Road, Mount Airy. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
