Ms. Malinda Beth Jarrett Samples, 93, of 3700 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC, passed away Saturday, May 3, 2008, at Lowman Home Nursing Center in White Rock, SC. Ms. Samples was born July 26, 1914, in Clendenin, WV, to the late Howard Vincent and Mira Elswick Jarrett. Malinda was the Republican nominee for the 5th district of the North Carolina House of Representatives in 1970. She was a retired realtor and a member of Central United Methodist Church in Mount Airy. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Stephen J. and Patsy T. Samples of Columbia, SC; two grandsons and a spouse, Sean T. Samples of Gilbert, SC, and Stewart B. and Jenny Samples of Lexington, SC; two great-grandsons, Brandon T. Samples of Gilbert, SC, and Jacob C. Samples of Lexington, SC; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Ms. Samples was preceded in death by three sisters, Della Kennedy, Hester Hall, and Ruby Jarvis; and two brothers, Burl Jarrett and Ordie Jarrett. The funeral service will be held Monday, May 5, 2008, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. The service will be conducted by the Rev. John Ferree, and burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 12:30 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
