Mamie Lee Jackson Combs

Mrs. Mamie Lee Jackson Combs, 91, of Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday, November 16, 2010, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. Combs was born February 7, 1919, in Surry County, to the late Walter Lee and Stacy Frances Rogers Jackson. She retired from J.C. Penney Company in Norfolk, VA, after 19 years of service as a sales associate. Following her retirement in 1981, she and her husband returned to Mount Airy. Mamie was an avid flower gardener and took a lot of pride in a well-groomed lawn. She truly enjoyed working outside and her beautiful flowers showed it. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Jack Brintle of Mount Airy; a son, Richard Larry Combs of Mount Airy; a granddaughter, Melanie Arrington of Mount Airy; and two great-grandchildren, Skyler Brooke Davis and Halston Gabrielle Davis, both of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Combs was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Robert Combs; a grandson, Mickey Dean Arrington; and three sisters, Eva Jackson Smith, Della Jackson Adams, and Clarice Jackson Hiatt. A private graveside service will be held at Skyline Memory Gardens, with the Rev. Elmo Hiatt officiating. There will not be a formal visitation at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 124 Myers Drive, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
