Mrs. Mamie Sue Norman Farris, 94, of Mount Airy, passed away Monday, December 12, 2011, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mrs. Farris was born December 19, 1916, in Carroll County, VA, one of twelve children born to the late Solomon Isaac and Lucy Bell Atkins Norman. Mamie was a homemaker and a member of Northwoods Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. She is survived by a daughter, Brenda Shuskey Payne of Lowgap; three sons and daughters-in-law, Marion and Bonnie Shuskey of Richmond, VA, Calvin and Peggy Shuskey of Mount Airy, and Donald and Brenda Farris of Walnut Cove; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Farris was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Farris; a son-in-law, Columbus Payne, Jr.; six sisters, Gertrude Wall, Hattie Chandler, Lula Byrd, Rosa Byrd, Nealie Goins, and Ollie Painter; and five brothers, Walter Norman, Louis Norman, Johnny Norman, William Norman, and Jay Norman. The funeral service will be held Thursday, December 15, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Jim Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home, and other times at the home of Brenda Shuskey Payne, 713 Imogene Church Road, Lowgap. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Skilled Nursing Unit at Northern Hospital of Surry County for their loving and compassionate care for the past three years. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Skilled Nursing Unit at Northern Hospital of Surry County, P.O.
