Mrs. Mamie Pauline Snow Johnson, 91, of Mount Airy, passed away Sunday, December 13, 2009, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mrs. Johnson was born June 22, 1918, in Surry County, to Richard William and Nancy Ardella Callahan Snow. She retired from Central Care Rest Home and was a member of New Life Pentecostal Church. Surviving are three daughters and a son-in-law, Marie and Tom McMillian and Carol Davis and Abner Atkins, all of Mount Airy, and Myrtle Bell Johnson of the home; a son, Leon Johnson of the home; a daughter-in-law, Georgia Johnson of Mount Airy; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband, James Sanford Johnson; a daughter, Judith Johnson; two sons, Oliver Johnson and William Johnson; a granddaughter, Peggy Sue Johnson; and a great granddaughter, Crystal Martin. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 15, 2009, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Gary Timmons, the Rev. Jimmy Tucker, and the Rev. Ed Coins officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday night from 7:00 to 9:00 at the funeral home, and other times at the home of Carol Davis and Abner Atkins, 1501 Old Highway 601, Mount Airy. The family would like to express their deep appreciation to Mrs. Johnson's caregivers, Alese Campbell and Betty Fortner, for their love and care of Mrs. Johnson.
