Mrs. Mamie Ceola Coble Sawyers, 84, of 1414 Edgewood Drive, Mount Airy, passed away Monday, November 12, 2007, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mrs. Sawyers was born September 19, 1923, in Guilford County, to the late Melvin Murphy and Mary Jane Clapp Coble. Mamie was a 1940 graduate of Nathaniel Greene High School in Julian. She was a retired floor lady from Barber Hosiery and a member of Blackwater United Methodist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Linda Sawyers Key of Ararat; three grandchildren and their spouses, Michael Wayne and Dee Dee Key and Marcia and Jason Smith, all of Ararat, and Melissa and Graham Atkinson of Siloam; six great-grandchildren, Samantha Atkinson, Hugh Atkinson, Heather Key, Danielle Key, Elliot Smith, and Mamie Smith; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Dee Layton of Climax; a brother, Frank Coble of Julian; and two sisters-in-law, Doris Coble of Greensboro and Bert Coble of Julian. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sawyers was preceded in death by her husband, Posey Wendell Sawyers; a son-in-law, Wayne Davis Key; a grandson-in-law, Mark Douglas White; and three brothers, Jack Coble, Henry Coble, and Murphy Coble. The funeral service will be held Thursday, November 15, 2007, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Ted Turman and the Rev. Todd E. Byrd., and burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, and other times at the home of Linda Sawyers Key, 483 Key Road, Ararat. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Blackwater United Methodist Church, c/o Linda Sawyers Key, 483 Key Road, Ararat, NC 27007, or Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, especially Ruth Handy and Carol Casstevens, and the staff of the Skilled Nursing Unit at Northern Hospital of Surry County for their love, care, and support during Mamie's illness.
