Mandy Ellen Tolbert Sawyers

Mrs. Mandy Ellen Tolbert Sawyers, 96, of 140 Kauffman Lane, Mount Airy, passed away Saturday, December 20, 2008, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. She was born May 17, 1912, in Surry County, to the late William and Mary Johnson Tolbert. She was a homemaker and a member of Blackwater United Methodist Church. Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Lela and George W. Jones, Mary Ruth Puckett, and Louise and William Kauffman, all of Mount Airy; two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Shannon Sawyers and Bill and Faye Sawyers, all of Mount Airy; thirteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; eighteen great-great-grandchildren; and a great-great-great-grandchild. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sawyers was preceded in death by her husband, Fred William Sawyers; two sons, Tommy O. Sawyers and Ed Atkins; a sister, Isabelle Corder; and a brother, Martin Tolbert. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 23, 2008, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Butch Holder and the Rev. Billy Watson, and burial will follow in the Blackwater United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at the funeral home.
