Margaret Edwards Barker Gunter

Mrs. Margaret Edwards Barker Gunter, 96, formerly of Westfield Road, Mount Airy, passed away Saturday, October 25, 2008, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Gunter was born September 9, 1912, in Surry County, to the late Benton and Lucy Handy Edwards. She did alterations for various clothing stores in Mount Airy most recently at Farees and was a lifetime member of Bannertown Baptist Church. She is survived by two stepdaughters and a spouse, Frances Bowling and Nancy G. and Clint Hopkins, all of Stuart, VA; a stepson and spouse, Bill and Emily Gunter of Stuart, VA; a daughter-in-law, Marie Elaine Barker of Mount Airy; three grandchildren and their spouses, Janet Marie Branch of Winston-Salem, Bruce James and Libby Barker of Wallburg, and Leigh Ann and Ken Tuttle of Midway; five great-grandchildren, Nathan Barker, Caleb Barker, Alyssa Barker, Nicole Tuttle, and Kristina Thomas; a great-great-grandson, Joshua Thomas; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gunter was preceded in death by her first husband, Clarence Swanson Barker; her second husband, Glenn W. Gunter; a son, James S. Barker; a stepson, Steve Gunter; two sisters, Lucille Sadlick and Myrtle Little; four brothers, Howard H. Edwards, Charles B. Edwards, James S. Edwards, and Claude R. Edwards. The funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, October 29, 2008, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy by the Rev. Rusty Reed. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at 1:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home.
