Mrs. Margaret Carson Calloway Hardy, 95, of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully on Thursday afternoon, March 21, 2024, at her home. Mrs. Hardy was born September 23, 1928, in Surry County, one of six children born to the late Charles Montgomery and Eliza Jane Carson Calloway. Margaret grew up in the White Plains community and attended White Plains School. On October 3, 1945, she married Ralph Curtis Hardy, and together they were a vital part of the Piney Grove community for 64 years. She dedicated her life to the creation of a loving home for her family and was the source of ceaseless support to those she loved. Margaret was a faithful member of Piney Grove Baptist Church for 78 years. She worked in food services at Surry Community College for several years. She delighted in cooking and baking for family and friends, along with creating beautiful flower gardens at her home. With her many talents and gifts, sharing her love with others was effortless as she always greeted everyone with her warm smile. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda Davis of Mount Airy, Kay and Russell Simpson of Winston-Salem, and Dennis Miller of Thurmond; her grandchildren, Beth Gordon of Mount Airy, David Simpson of Winston-Salem, Allison and Josh Allen of Pfafftown, Laura and Josh Hazelwood of Dobson, and Olivia and Austin Bodenhamer of Dobson; her great-grandchildren, Katherine Gordon and her fiancé, Austin Fleming, of Mount Airy, Liam Allen of Myrtle Beach, SC, Samuel Gordon of Mount Airy, Kayleigh Allen of Pfafftown, Brady Hazelwood of Dobson, and Owen Allen of Pfafftown; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hardy was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Curtis Hardy; a daughter, Patricia Ann “Patti” Hardy Miller; three sisters, Ruth Woodring, Lou Etta Butcher, and Mary Akins; and two brothers, David Wilburn Calloway and James Walker Calloway. A service of worship and celebration of Margaret’s life will be held Sunday, March 24, 2024, at 4:00 PM at Piney Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Caleb S. Foust and the Rev. Marcus E. McGill officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 3:00 until 4:00 PM at the church.
