Margaret Lee Childress Smith

Mrs. Margaret Lee Childress Smith, 89, of Mount Airy, passed away Friday morning, May 19, 2017, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. Smith was born April 23, 1928, in Surry County, the daughter of the late Howard William and Josie Pack Childress. Margaret was a devoted housewife and worked as a beautician for many years. She is survived by a daughter, Donna Kay Smith of Mount Airy; a son, Randy Smith of Mount Airy; her grandchildren, Harrison Smith of Pilot Mountain, Lucas Blanchard and Jeffrey Winn of Arlington, VA, Chasen Smith of Greensboro, and Abigail Smith of Mount Airy; a great-grandchild, Ryleigh Smith of King; two sisters, Melverine Gammons and Gloria Haynes, both of Mount Airy; and a sister-in-law, Nancy Childress of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Jay Smith; and three brothers, Jim Childress, Bob Childress, and Roy Childress. The funeral service will be held Monday, May 22, 2017, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Tim Felts officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday from 12:30 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and compassion shown by the staff at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home and a special caregiver and niece, Jamie Harrold. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
